Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Wednesday, March 3, 1999 
Lorraine Johnson Stephens, 78, of the 6400 block of Sedgefield Drive, departed
this life in the early evening hours of Feb. 28, 1999.

Mrs. Stephens was born in Ivor, Va., to the late John Eddie and Rosa Belle
Johnson. She was educated in the public schools of Southampton and Isle of
Wight. Mrs. Stephens came to Norfolk in the late 1930s after graduating from
Hayden High School. Soon thereafter, she joined First Baptist Church, Bute
Street, where she remained a faithful member.

As a young woman, Mrs. Stephens worked as a tailor at Sam Finkelstein and Co.
and S&H Cleaners. After the birth of her first child in 1951, she became a
devoted, industrious and enterprising homemaker. She built a warm, nurturing
home and a strong family environment that enriched the lives of many.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband of 55 years, Mr. Kearney Stephens;
two daughters, Angela Stephens McIntosh and Sonya D. Brown; three grandsons and
four granddaughters; two sisters, Elsie J. Russell and Rosalyn J. Credle; a
brother, J. Howard Johnson; two sons-in-law, Jessie C. McIntosh and Barry C.
Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends. Mrs.
Stephens was predeceased by her oldest child, Kearney Stephens Jr.

A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, 418
E. Bute St., Norfolk, by the Rev. Dr. Robert G. Murray. The body will be taken
to the church at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Graves Funeral
