Norfolk - Sylvester Stepney Sr. of 854 Lexington St., died Thursday, February 14
at home.

A native of Hertford, NC, Stepney was the husband of the late Leolia Stepney. He
had retired from a job with International Longshoremens Association, Local 1248,
after 20 years. He was a member of New Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Willie Mae Smith and Bernice Stepney, and a
son, Sylvester Stepney Jr., all of Norfolk; a sister, Rosetta Jenkins of
Hertford, NC; 16 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was conducted on February 18 in New Calvary Baptist Church by
Dr. Milton A. Reid. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Hale Funeral Home had charge.
