Norfolk Virginian Tuesday June 8, 1897 

Mrs. Mary A. Sterling died at 5:45 o'clock Sunday morning at the home of her son, 
Mr. J.C. Sterling, No. 209 Brown Avenue, aged 61 years.  The funeral took place at 
4 o'clock yesterday afternoon from the residence and was conducted by Revs. J.W. 
Moore, R.H. Bennett and E.C. Woodson.  The interment was in Elmwood.  Her 
grandchild died on May 7th and her sister, Mrs. Houck, died on May 19th.
