Walter Stiff of 6553 Whitehorn drive, a Norfolk city employee and a deacon of 
New Mt. Herman Baptist Church, was given final rites at the Church Wednesday.  
He died Nov. 10 in a Norfolk hospital.

The Rev. James Powell officiated at the service.  Burial was in Calvary 
Cemetery, with Graves Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stiff was a native of Southampton County.  His survivors include his wife, 
Mrs. Mamie Stiff;  three daughters, Mrs. Marie Bonds and Mrs. Effie Winbush of 
Norfolk and Mrs. Hazel Corprew of New York;  three sons, Samuel L. Milton and 
Walter Stiff Jr. of Norfolk;  two sisters, Miss Hattie Stiff of Florida and Miss 
Mary Stiff of Norfolk;  a brother, Joe Guy Stiff, also of Norfolk;  17 
grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
