A lifelong resident of Norfolk, he was a son of the late Alexander and Melissa Cuthrell Stokes. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ellen Etheridge; one daughter, Mrs. Shipp; two sons, Edward L. Stokes and Leonard W. Stokes, of Norfolk County; one sister, Mrs. P.H. Tatum, of Portlock; his stepmother, Mrs. Edna Stokes; two half- sisters, Mrs. F.F. Barton and Miss Ethel Stokes, and a half-brother, Raymond Stokes, of Norfolk County. The body was removed to the Graham Funeral Home, South Norfolk, where funeral services will be conducted today at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
