Charles Straughn, aged 76, of B street, South Norfolk, died Saturday night at 9:20 o'clock at a local hospital after an illness of several years. He was a son of the late David H. and Mary Gladden Straughn and the husband of Mamie C. Straughn. A native of Snow Hill, Md., he had resided here for 38 years. For a number of years Mr. Straughn was pastor of the Twelfth Street Mission, Berkley. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Mervin E. Straughn, of South Norfolk; two sisters, Mrs. Thomas J. Mann, of Norfolk, and Mrs. J.L. Gregory, of Elizabeth City, N.C.; two brothers, Luther S. Straughn, of Elizabeth City, and Linwood Straughn, of Jacksonville, N.C. Mr. Straughn was a member of the Chesapeake Avenue Methodist Church. The body was removed to the J.R. Williams Funeral Home, 1027 Chesapeake avenue, South Norfolk, and will be taken to the church this afternoon at 4 o'clock where funeral services will be conducted. Burial will be in the Magnolia Cemetery.
