Sumler of 401 Walker avenue, who died in a Norfolk hospital Aug. 1, was given final rites Sunday at First Baptist church of Berkley, where he was church clerk for 40 years and chairman of the trustee board. The retired cleaning and pressing shop owner, who was in business in Norfolk 40 years, was buried in Calvary Cemetery under direction of Chatman Funeral Home. Mr. Sumler was a member of Berkley lodge of Elks and its past exalted ruler's council. Survivors include his wife Mrs. Gladys Scott Sumler; three sons, Walter and John A. Sumler of Norfolk and William Sumler of New York City; and a daughter, Mrs. May Caldwell of New York City.
