Born in Norfolk, he was retired from Old Dominion University and Norfolk & Western Railroad. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Lambert's Point, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was predeceased by his wife, Luvinia Gaines Swan, and a son, Roman V. Swan. Survivors include three daughters, Edwina Wilson of Norfolk, Linda Howcott of Chesapeake and Margaret Mitchell of Norfolk; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A funeral will be at noon Thursday at First Baptist Church, Lambert's Point, by the Rev. Anthony Paige. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Viewing will be from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Carlos A. Howard Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel. The family will assemble at the residence at 11 a.m. for the procession.
