Norfolk Virginian Pilot May 8, 1939

Mrs. Anna Brown Sweeney, aged 71, widow of Patrick Sweeney and daughter of James 
and Mrs. Theresa Hughes Brown, died at a local hospital yesterday morning at 
2:15 o'clock. Mrs. Sweeney was a native of Ireland and a resident of Norfolk for 
the past 50 years.
Surviving her are five daughters, Mrs. Walter M. Coppridge, Mrs. Martha H. 
Dougherty, Mrs. Nelson W. Davenport, Mrs. George I. North and Mrs. Hulbert E. 
Flowers; one son, James Patrick Sweeney; a sister, Mrs. Martha Ralston, all of 
Norfolk and one brother, William Brown, of Whiting Ind. 
The body will be taken from the residence, 350 West Fourteenth Street, to Sacred 
Heart Catholic Church, of which Mrs. Sweeney was a member, for funeral services 
tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary 
services will be held at the residence tonight at 9 o'clock.
