With the exception of two years, from 1900 to 1902, he was an active member of the Norfolk police force until the time he was retired by City Council. The illness, which resulted in his death, is said to have been caused when he was struck by an automobile and injured shortly before his retirement. Patrolman Sweeney was born in Ireland in 1856. He came to America and established his home in Norfolk about 40 years ago. Besides his wife, Mrs. Anna Brown Sweeney, he is survived by five daughters, Mrs. M.W. Coppridge, Mrs. C.A. Dougherty, Mrs. N.W. Davenport and Misses Etta and Edith Sweeney; one son, James P. Sweeney, all of Norfolk and a brother, Peter Sweeney, living in New York. Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Friday morning at 10 o'clock. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. ************************************************************************ SWEENEY, PATRICK – At the residence, No. 350 W.
