Swift, 20 years old, who was struck in the head with a wooden spindle at the Chesapeake Knitting Mills Wednesday afternoon by Waverly Wilder, 16 years old, while the two were in a dispute over their work, died yesterday morning at the Norfolk Protestant Hospital. The blow rendered by Wilder landed on the left side of Swift's head and rendered him unconscious. He was immediately moved to the Norfolk Protestant Hospital. Wilder was placed under arrest by Patrolman Brown. Coroner Kight was notified and the remains were viewed at the hospital and an inquest will be held this morning. Swift was from Indiana and was a son of Mrs. Allen, who resides on Liberty street, South Norfolk. The family came here about four years ago. The body was turned over to Funeral Director Williams for burial. The funeral will be conducted from the residence Saturday afternoon. *********************************************************** GEORGE SWIFT'S FUNERAL WILL TAKE PLACE TODAY The funeral of George L. Swift, who died at the Norfolk Protestant Hospital Thursday morning as the result of injuries received on the head from being hit by Waverly Wilder the day before with a spindle while they were at work at the Chesapeake Knitting Mills, will be conducted from the residence of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Allen, Liberty street, between Seventh and Eighteenth streets, this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. R.B. Scott, pastor of Liberty Street M.E. Church, will officiate and the interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
