Mr. Sykes was a native of Walliston, and had made his home here practically all of his life. A son of the late James L. and Elizabeth Hall Sykes, and husband of Hattie Speight Sykes, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ernest Ellis, of Norfolk; Mrs. R.G. Griesback, of Portsmouth, and Miss Julia Sykes, of Portlock; four sons, G.I. Sykes, of Great Bridge; K.W. Sykes, of Norfolk; R.L. and J.L. Sykes, of Portlock; a half-sister, Mrs. Lucy Step, of Norfolk County, and a half-brother, Willie Sykes, of Norfolk, and 12 grandchildren. The body was removed to the Graham Funeral Home, Jackson and Jefferson streets, South Norfolk, where funeral services will be held this afternoon at 4 o'clock. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
