Virginian Pilot August 3, 1899
 
The funeral of Mrs. Emma J. Sykes, wife of Mr. William A. Sykes, was 
solemnized from Epworth M.E. Church at 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon and was 
conducted by the pastor, Rev. W.J. Young, D.D.  The remains were laid to rest 
in Elmwood Cemetery.  Following were the pallbearers: George W. Hill, Russell 
Webb, L. Sands, A.S. Lambert, William Duncan, and S. Clay Kilby.
