She was a native of Great Bridge, Norfolk County, born September 25, 1840, and had been a resident of Norfolk since early childhood. Surviving her are one sister, Miss Carrie Sykes, of Norfolk, and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at H.D. Oliver's funeral apartments, 610-12 East Freemason street, this afternoon at 3 o'clock, the Rev. H.P. Clarke, D.D., pastor of Park Place M.E. Church, officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery, Berkley. ***************** Miss Virginia Sykes - Funeral services for Miss Sykes, were held yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock at H.D. Oliver's funeral apartments, 610-12 East Freemason street, the Rev. H.P. Clarke, D.D., pastor of Park Place M.E. Church, officiating. There was a large attendance and many floral offerings. The casket was covered with clusters of gladiolus, dahlias and ferns. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery, Berkley. Pallbearers were Capt. John Drew, Caleb Hodges, J.H. Gourley, Charles Tumbleson, W.O. Beasley and William Carter.
