The Virginian Pilot Sunday January 19, 1969
Maywood Bartlett Sykes, 87, of 1218 Hillside Ave., the husband of Mrs. 
Dorcas Petree Sykes and a son of John Henry and Mrs. Lydia Halstead Sykes, 
died in a hospital Saturday at 1:15 p.m.
A native of Great Bridge, he was a lifelong resident of Tidewater.
He was a member of Episcopal Church of the Epiphany and a 57-year member of 
Doric Masonic Lodge 44.  He retired in 1953 from Virginian Railroad after 52 
years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy G. Humphlett of 
Norfolk; a sister, Mrs. Eva Hollowell of Rockingham, N.C.; a granddaughter; 
and a great-grandson.
A funeral service will be held in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Monday at noon 
by the Rev. S.W. Easty Jr. of Episcopal Church of Epiphany.  Burial with 
Masonic rites, will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
