Norfolk - Mary E. Sykes of 2415 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., a native of Elizabeth 
City, NC, died Monday in a hospital.

Mrs. Sykes had retired as a self-employed seamstress and designer after 35 
years.  She was a member of First Baptist Church, Bute Street, the Dorcas Class 
and the Mamie E. Gordon Missionary Group.  She was a former member of the choir.

Survivors include her husband, J. Howard Sykes;  a sister, Adell Johnson of 
Pittsburgh;  and a brother, Joseph Perry of Elizabeth City, NC.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church, Bute 
Street, by Dr. Robert G. Murray.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.  Hale 
Funeral Home is in charge.

The family will be at the residence.  The body will be placed in the church at 
11 a.m. Saturday.
