Sykes, a printer, who was at one time employed in the mechanical department of the Virginian-Pilot, died yesterday morning at the Williamsburg State Hospital, after a lingering illness. The deceased was a resident of Berkley ward and had numerous friends who will learn with sorrow of his death. He was a native of Norfolk and was in the 34th year of his age. He is survived by a widow, two children, his mother and four sisters--Mrs. J.L. Lawrence, Mrs. Hardy Duke, Mrs. Frank Wilson and Mrs. L.M. Nash. Mr. Sykes was a member of Berkley Aerie of Eagles and Berkley Lodge 278, B.P.O. Elks and a number of other fraternal organizations. The remains arrived here last evening via the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad and were taken to the funeral apartments of E. Lee Cox, Berkley where they were prepared for burial. The funeral will take place from his late residence, Berkley, today. ************************************************* The funeral of William S. Sykes will be held from the residence, 1712 Granby street, at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon, and will be conducted by Rev. W.A. Smith, of Berkley Avenue Baptist Church. Sykes will be conducted from his late residence, Eighteenth and Granby streets, this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. W.A. Smith, pastor of the Berkley Avenue Baptist Church, will officiate, and the interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Berkley Aerie, 795, Fraternal Order of Eagles, of which the deceased was past worthy president, and Berkley Lodge, 278, B.P.O. Elks, of which he was a past officer, will attend the funeral in a body.
