Virginian Pilot January 28, 1906

Mrs. Bettie E. Sykes, died yesterday morning at 11 o'clock at her residence in 
Seaboard avenue, South Norfolk, after an illness of several days.  The deceased 
was 24 years old.  She leaves a husband, M.B. Sykes, and several children.
The funeral will be conducted from the residence this afternoon at 3 o'clock 
with Rev. Q.C. Davis, pastor of South Norfolk Baptist Church officiating.  he 
will be assisted by Rev. V.W. Bargamin, pastor of Liberty Street M.E. Church.  
Interment at Magnolia Cemetery.

The funeral of the late Mrs. Bettie E. Sykes, wife of M.B. Sykes, who died at 
her home in Seaboard avenue, was conducted from the residence Sunday afternoon 
at 3 o'clock.  Rev. Q.C. Davis, pastor of South Norfolk Baptist Church, assisted 
by Rev. V.W. Bargamin, pastor of Liberty Street M.E. Church, officiated.
The interment was in Magnolia Cemetery.  The following were the pallbearers:  
Messrs. Raymond Spruill, Vernon Etheridge, W.J. Nixon, Harvey Simpson, Charles 
Hanbury and Harry Nicholas.
