Sykes, widow of the late Geo. A. Sykes, a well-known and highly respected lady, died yesterday afternoon, at 4 o'clock, at her home, corner Berkley avenue and Cross street, after a lingering illness of several months. The deceased was 48 years old and leaves six sons and daughters, as follows: Messrs.. Ernest Barnes, Wm. H. and Misses Lois Pearl, Evelyn Mary, Vivian Georgia and Gladys Marina Sykes. Mrs. Sykes was a sister of Mrs. H.I. Wicks, of this place and a daughter of the late Wm. H. Barnes, a deputy clerk of the county court. The deceased has been a resident of Berkley about ten years, having moved here from Pleasant Grove, Norfolk County. She was a consistent member of Memorial M.E. Church during her residence here and has a host of friends. On account of her extreme illness and the little hope of her recovery Mr. and Mrs. Carl Colonna, who were away on their bridal tour, were telegraphed for and reached here yesterday morning at 11 o'clock. The notice of funeral will be printed later. ******************************************************************** The funeral of the late Mrs. Marina F. Sykes, who died on Monday afternoon at her late residence, on Berkley avenue, took place yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the residence The obsequies were conducted by Rev. W. Asbury Christian, pastor of Memorial M.E. Church and were largely attended. The following gentlemen acted as pallbearers: Messrs. J.T. Ottley, J.H. Jacocks, G.D. Williams, M.C. Keeling, Charles Gibbs, L. Berkley, W.M. Tilley and C.J. Colonna. The interment was in Magnolia Cemetery.
