Sykes, one of Berkley's oldest citizens, passed away at his home in Pendleton Street after an illness of several years duration. He was sixty years old and was born at Mount Pleasant, Norfolk County. For thirty-two years he was a resident of Berkley and made many friends in that time. For a number of years he was in business in Norfolk on Campbell's wharf, being a member of the firm of Sykes & Guy. He formerly took an active part in politics in the county. He was a member of Lee Lodge No. 48, K. of P. and of Niemeyer-Shaw Camp, C.V. Mrs. M.L. Nash, Mrs. J.L. Lawrence, Mrs. Hardy H. Duke, Mrs. F.C. Wilson and William S. Sykes, of Berkley, survive him with their mother. Notice of funeral of Mrs. Sykes will be given later ************************************************************ The funeral of N.M. Sykes, who died Tuesday morning, will take place this afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at his late residence, 21 Pendleton Street, and will be conducted by Rev. W.A. Smith, of the Berkley Avenue Baptist Church. Lee Lodge No. 48, K. of P. and Niemeyer-Shaw Camp Confederate Veterans will attend the funeral in a body. The interment will take place in Magnolia Cemetery.
