Virginian Pilot and The Norfolk Landmark August 7, 1912

Miss Octavia Sykes passed away at the home of her niece, Mrs. Jessie E. Locke, 
223 Twenty-ninth Street, at 9:45 a.m. yesterday, following a stroke of 
paralysis she suffered ten days ago while visiting her niece.  She was the 
daughter of the late Jesse D. and Elizabeth Sykes of Norfolk County and a 
sister of Jesse and Julius Sykes and Miss Virginia and Miss Carrie Sykes of 
Norfolk and Bascom Sykes of Portsmouth.  The funeral will be held at the 
residence of Mrs. Locke at 3 o'clock this afternoon.  The interment will be in 
Magnolia Cemetery, Berkley ward.
