Norfolk Virginian February 26, 1888

SYKES - February 24th, at her residence, No. 7 Cumberland Street, Mrs. MARY 
F. SYKES, wife of B.J. Sykes, aged 52 years and 11 months.
Her funeral will take place from Cumberland Street M.E. Church THIS (Sunday) 
AFTERNOON at 3:30 o'clock.

The funeral of Mrs. Frances M. Sykes took place from Cumberland Street M.E. 
Church Sunday afternoon and was largely attended. Rev. A.G. Brown conducted 
the funeral service, after which the remains were borne to Elmwood Cemetery 
and interred, the following gentlemen acting as pallbearers:  Luther Dear, 
Wm. A. Simmons, E.J. Whitehurst, James Simmons, Benjamin Harrison and 
Leonard Simmons.
