W. Scott Sykes Captain W. Scott Sykes, an old and highly respected citizen of Berkley, died at his residence in that village yesterday afternoon. Captain Sykes was stricken with paralysis some time since, but improved up to a short while since, when he was again stricken down, and during the last few days his death has been hourly expected. He was a man highly esteemed by all who knew him and was county surveyor. He served gallantly during the late war, and at the time of his death was a member of several lodges. His funeral will take place from Chestnut Street M.E. Church, in that village, tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock. ************************************************************************* The funeral of the late Capt. W. Scott Sykes, whose death was mentioned in Sunday's VIRGINIAN took place from the Chestnut Street M.E. Church, in Berkley, yesterday morning at 11 o'clock and was very largely attended. Many handsome floral offerings were sent by sympathizing friends. Rev. B.F. Lipscomb conducted the services and the remains were interred in the cemetery in Berkley, the following gentlemen acting as pallbearers: Major W.H. Etheridge and Col. W.H. Stewart, of Stonewall Camp, Confederate Veterans; Dr. George T. Wallace and J.F. Dalby, of Old Dominion Council, R.A. and Captain R.C. Marshall, Messrs R.D. Parratt, T.C. Humphries and Enos Cuthriell.
