H. TATEM DIES AFTER ILLNESS OF NINE DAYS One Of Berkley's Best Known Citizens Succumbs To Double Pneumonia William Haywood Tatem, 52 years of age, one of the best known men in Berkley, died last evening at 7:25 o'clock, after an illness lasting nine days, at the family residence, 296 Maple avenue. Mr. Tatem became ill last Wednesday night, suffering from double pneumonia, together with a complication of heart and kidney trouble. Realizing that his condition was precarious from the beginning, everything known was done for him. After the fourth day he showed signs of improvement, but grew slightly worse Thursday and continued to sink to the end. Mr. Tatem had been engaged in the real estate business several years and was looked upon as one of the best salesmen in his profession. He was a natural wit, which, together with his genial disposition, made for him many warm friends, who enjoyed his company and deeply regret his untimely end. He was a native of Rocky Mount N.C., a son of the late George N. and Mrs. Mary Bridges Tatem, but had spent 35 years of his life in this section. In addition to his widow, nee Miss Hanie(?) Drummond Tatem, he is survived by the following children: Haywood B. Tatem and Misses Lydia D. and Mary Nash Tatem, one sister, Mrs. Lola M. Massey and a host of distant kinsmen of this section. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. The funeral services will be conducted at the residence Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock and burial will be in the family lot in Magnolia Cemetery.
