Her death was caused by a heart condition from which she had suffered for some time. A native of Berkley, Miss Tatem was a descendant of prominent early Norfolk County and Virginia Eastern Shore families. She was an authority on the early history of this section particularly that of the War Between the States, in which her forebears played a prominent part. She was a daughter of James Franklin and Mrs. Elishea Cuthbert Drummond Tatem. After beginning her teaching career in Northwest, Norfolk County, she transferred to the Berkley Schools, where she taught for 52 years. Her last post was in Robert Gatewood School in Berkley. Miss Tatem was a former secretary of the Woman's Democratic Club of Norfolk and a member of the Classroom Teachers Department of the National Education Association. She attended Old St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Elishea Tatem Pretlow of Norfolk. The body was taken to Derry-Twiford Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be conducted Friday at 3:30 p.m. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery, Berkley.
