She was a faithful member of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, a member of the Women's Ministry and a devoted and loving mother of 10 children, the loves of her life. A native of Norfolk, she was born Sept. 1, 1924. She was educated in the Norfolk public school system and was a member of the Booker T. Washington Class of 1943. She was the daughter of the late Warren G. and Minnie Cuffee Paynter and was preceded in death by her husband, Elvin Taylor Sr.; her sister, Lorraine Jones; her grandson, Cherone Gunn and her great-grandson, Leron Taylor . Left to cherish her memory are five daughters, Elva Taylor and Elvira Allen (Michael) of Norfolk, Mona Gunn (Louge) and Trudy Taylor of Virginia Beach and Nancy Parker (Carl) of San Diego, Calif.; five sons, Elvin Taylor Jr. (Veronica) and Stephen Taylor of Norfolk, Caulbert Taylor (Venise) of Providence Forge, Va., Warren Taylor (Jaye) of Gaithersburg, Md., and EL'Dawn Taylor (Stephanie) of Rex, Ga.; 14 grandchildren, Kada, Decaya, Anton, Elvin III, Elron, Jamal, Jason, Caulbert II, Aisha, Zainab, Michael, Marcus, Christian and Evan; 10 great-grandchildren, cousin, James Cuffee (Booker T); sister-in-law, Minnie Taylor ; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Her children extend a special thanks to Fresenius Medical Care for the loving care and comfort of their mother for seven years. Viewing will be held Monday from 1 until 6 p.m. in Chatman / E.A. Hughes Funeral Home, 406 South Main St., Norfolk, followed by a Christian wake at 7 p.m. in the Basilica of St. Mary. A Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Basilica with the Rev. Thomas J. Quinlan and the Rev. John J. Dorgan celebrating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at 601 Hunts Pointe Drive in Virginia Beach on Tuesday one hour prior to service for procession to the church.
