William Vanna Taylor, one of the most prominent citizens of Norfolk, died yesterday at St. Vincent’s Hospital, aged seventy-two years. He was a civilian attaché of the old navy, a veteran of the Mexican War, served during the war in the Confederate Army, and was afterward a prominent banker. ******************* The Norfolk Virginian, July 31, 1897 The remains of the late Major William Vanna Taylor, whose death was announced in yesterday’s Virginian, were laid to rest in Cedar Grove Cemetery yesterday morning, after the funeral services at the residence of Mr. W.H. Reed, No. 253 Freemason Street, at 10 o’clock. The obsequies were conducted by Rev. Arthur S. Lloyd, rector of St. Luke’s P.E. Church, assisted by Rev. Robert Gatewood. The following gentlemen acted a pall- bearers: Captain William E. Taylor, Messrs. John Vermillion, S.P. Moore, George McIntosh, Hunter Woodis, Boswell Bagnall, Joseph Kennedy, and Thomas Rowland.
