Francis Taylor Sr., reported to be one of the oldest funeral directors in the city, will be held Friday at 2 p.m.in St. John’s AME Church, with the Rev. H. M. Shields officiating. Mr. Taylor died at the age of 70 at his residence, 1323 Calvert street, Monday, at 11:50 p.m. Mr. Taylor had been in failing health for the past three years, but his death came as a shock. He died a few minutes after being stricken with a heart attack. A native of Great Bridge, the mortician came to Norfolk in 1916. He has been associated with the undertaking business since 1910. At the time of his death, he was the senior member of Taylor’s Funeral Home, E. Princess Anne road, a partner to his sons. He was a member of St. John’s AME Church and of Raphael’s Lodge No. 162, Masons. Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Gertrude Ira Taylor; four sons, W. Francis Taylor Jr. of Virginia Beach, Booker W. Taylor, Elvin S. Taylor, and James L Taylor of Norfolk.
