Thatch Sr., 78, of the 5500 block of Elizabeth Ave., died Dec. 18, 1996, in Sentara Leigh Hospital. Mr. Thatch served in the Army during World War II and retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 35 years of service. He was a native of Norfolk and a member of St. Gregory's Catholic Church, Virginia Beach. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Thatch of Norfolk; three daughters, Phyllis T. Kurowski of Virginia Beach, Catherine T. Black of San Diego, Annette Thatch of Norfolk; a son, Philip B. Thatch Jr. of Newport News; a brother, Vincent D. Thatch of Norfolk; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. A Rosary service will be held Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel.
