Virginian Pilot January 24, 2000

Charles H. Thayer Jr., 88, of the 500 block of Thalia Road, a retired structural 
and consulting engineer, died Jan. 20, 2000, in his residence.
Mr. Thayer was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine Thayer. He graduated from 
Maury High, and from Drexel Institute in Philadelphia in 1935. He was a 50-year 
member of the Rotary Club of Norfolk, the Ruth Masonic Lodge and was a member of 
St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Norfolk.
Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Margaret Jackson and 
Hubert, Patricia Paschal and Elwood, and Marjorie Love and Michael, all of 
Virginia Beach; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A church service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Paul's Episcopal 
Church by the Rev. John Capellaro. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in H.D. Oliver Funeral 
Apartments, Norfolk Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's 
Episcopal Church.
