Norfolk - Mrs. Ethel Thomas, a native of Norfolk, died March 15, at the age of
59.  She had been a member of the First Baptist Church at Lambert’s Point for 49
years, having been converted and joining when 10 years old under the pastorate
of the Rev. David Jennings.

Her funeral was held March 22 at that church.  The Rev. M. C. Southerland,
present pastor, eulogized the deceased as a devout Christian, a conscientious
mother, grandmother and sister.

Mrs. Thomas had been a member of the choir for 48 years, and grand worthy matron
and member of the Order of Eastern Star for 32 years.

A daughter of the late James and Mrs. Lottie Jones, Mrs. Thomas is survived by a
daughter, Mrs. Hilda Boyd;  granddaughter, Mrs. Ethel Evans;  eight sisters,
Mrs. Nettie Shambry, Mrs. Kate
 Kindred, Mrs. Rosa Walker, Newark NJ;  Mrs. Mattie Dudley, Coatesville PA; 
Mrs. Alice Price, Mrs. Pricie Daniels, New York City;  Mrs. Lavene Robinson,
Mrs. Essie Smalls, New York City, and one brother, Ulysses Jones, New York City.

The cortege was borne to the family plot in Calvary Cemetery with her nephews as
pallbearers.
