                        Owen P. Thomas Dies, Aged 62

Cmdr. Owen Paul Thomas, USCG (ret), 62, husband of Mrs. Gladys Wilber Thomas and 
son of the late David O. and Mrs. Ida Jane Roberts Thomas, a native of Norfolk 
and a resident of Cleveland, Ohio for the past 11 years, died at a Norfolk 
hospital Tuesday at 1:20 a.m.
He was a member of the Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Virginia Beach, and the 
Retired Officers Assn. and resided at 213 51st St., Virginia Beach.
Commander Thomas before his retirement was in the U.S. Coast Guard for 42 years.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Robert W. Keirs of Lynden, 
Wash. and Mrs. Charles H. Hatcher of Los Angeles, Calif.; one son, Owen P. 
Thomas Jr. of Los Angeles; one sister, Mrs. Hannah Denning of Norfolk; two 
brothers, John D. Thomas of Greensboro, N.C. and William D. Thomas of 
Cincinnati, Ohio; six grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
The body will be taken from the Ewell and Williamson Funeral Home to St. Mary's 
Catholic Church for funeral services Thursday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. 
Mary's Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Mrs. Roy W. Gale, 3641 
Nottoway St. The family will be at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 o'clock.
