He was a native and lifelong resident of Norfolk, Virginia and was the son of the late Peter and Jennie Romanus Thomas. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Adaline "Andy" Raphoon Thomas and his son, Peter A. Thomas and eleven siblings. Tony was the retired co-owner of John Brothers Plastering of Norfolk. He was a Roman Catholic and a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church and a former member of Blessed Sacrament and also attended the Church of the Ascension. He served his country in the United States Navy as a Chief Gunners Mate during World War II. He was a former coach of the Kings Grant Vikings Football Team and a former President of the Lynnhaven Pony and Colt Baseball League. He was a charter member of Father Nicholas J. Habits Council # 3642, Knights of Columbus and was it's past Grand Knight and a past District Deputy. He was also a member and former president of the Sons and Daughters of Lebanon. He was also a member of the Padul Caravan #69,International Order of Alhambra. Survivors include his loving son, Martin A. Thomas, and his wife Mary Barbara of Virginia Beach and his brother, Leo Thomas of Virginia Beach. He is also survived by four grandchildren; Martin A. Thomas, Jr. (Maggie), Rebecca S. Zborowski (Eric), John Paul Thomas and Grace Ann Willenbrink and four great grandchildren. His family would like to thank the caring staffs of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and Freda Gordon Hospice and Palliative Care of Tidewater for their loving care of Mr. Tony. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gregory the Great Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 10:00 AM. The Reverend Father Mario Fulgenzi will officiate. A private family interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Laskin Road Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Friday, June 24, 2016 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
