Norfolk - Mary Jo Thomas, 51, passed away on March 20, 2013. A native of Norfolk, 
Mary Jo was retired from civil service as a contract painter. She was a devoted 
daughter, mother, sister and friend.Mary Jo, also known as "Sassy," was a free 
spirit who loved the beach, the Outer Banks and lighthouses. She is survived by 
three children, Robert, Dakota and Kelsey Elkins, her father, Albert Weatherspoon, 
sisters, Valerie Richardson, Deborah Modlin and husband Les, Alma Beck and husband 
David, and a host of nieces and nephews. She preceded in death by her mother, 
Mary. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Hollomon-Brown 
Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel. Burial will be private. Condolences may be 
offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com
