The Norfolk Virginian Pilot March 15, 1938


Richard Thornton Thomas, aged 79, died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. 
Ella Shanks, 3225 Lens Avenue, yesterday morning at 1:40 o’clock, after a long 
period of failing health. He was a native of Richmond, and had resided in 
Norfolk for 75 years. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Shanks, and Mrs. 
F.J. O’Brien, of Norfolk and Mrs. G.S. Wickens, of Collingwood, N.J.; nine 
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 o’clock at the 
Gregory Funeral Home, Thirty-Fourth and Granby Streets. Burial will be in 
Elmwood Cemetery.
