Norfolk Virginian Pilot February 7, 1937

 
Mrs. Emma Martin Thomas, aged 51, died at a local hospital yesterday afternoon 
at 3:55 o’clock, after an illness of three years. She was a native of 
Portsmouth and had been a resident of Norfolk 23 years. Mrs. Thomas was the 
daughter of Benjamin F. Martin, of Norfolk, and the late Mrs. Margaret Overton 
Martin. She is survived by her husband, Emmett M. Thomas; one daughter, Miss 
Margaret Elizabeth Thomas, and two sons, Benjamin Martin Thomas and William 
Edwin Thomas, all of Norfolk. She was a member of Park Place Methodist Church.
The body will be taken from the funeral home of E. Lee Cox & Brother, 631 
Westover Avenue, to the residence, 1152 Hanover Avenue, for funeral services 
tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock. The Rev. Frank L. Wells, D.D., pastor of Park 
Place Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the family plot in 
Elmwood Cemetery.
