Mr. Thompson was born in Portsmouth on April 22, 1905, and grew up in Willoughby. Mr. Thompson was a cum laude graduate of the College of William and Mary, class of 1928. As a student there, he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa honor fraternity, Theta Delta Chi, Omicron Delta Kappa, and the assistant Bursar. Mr. Thompson was very active in the College through the years and he was past president of the Society of the Alumni, a founder of the Old Guard, a member of the Order of the White Jacket and the Athletic Educational Foundation. Mr. Thompson was awarded William and Mary's highest honor, the Alumni Medallion, for his outstanding accomplishments and dedication to the College. Mr. Thompson was a Navy veteran of WWII and had retired from the Navy as a Captain. Mr. Thompsom was the former owner and founder of Thompson-Royal Dodge in Virginia Beach. He was past president of the Virginia Automobile Dealers Association, the Virginia Beach Rotary Club, the Virginia Beach Sports Club, and the Pyramid Club. He was a member of The Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Virginia Beach. Mr. Thompson was the son of the late William G. Thompson, Sr. and Margaret Kenefick Thompson and preceded in death by his sister and brother, Sarah T. Franz and Francis S. Thompson. Survivors include his beloved wife, Mary Robertson Thompson of Virginia Beach; his sister, Margaret Thompson of Norfolk, Va.; and his nephew, David C. Thompson of Richmond, Va. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 1996, at The Star of the Sea Catholic Church by Fr. William V. Sullivan and Fr. Paul T. Gaughan and Fr. Michael Breslin.
