Charles I. Thompson, III, 80, of Norfolk, Virginia died June 16, 2025. Charles 
was born in New York to Charles I Thompson Jr. and Mary Grace Grussey.
He and his wife, Leela Gay (deceased 2024), were married for 55 years. Charles 
was the Safety Director at Norfolk State University, and previously Virginia 
International Terminals. He had many hobbies and interests, including model 
trains and railroads. He was also a proud member of Tidewater Mensa. Charles was 
also active in his church, Blessed Sacrament. He was on the church council, an 
usher and a Eucharistic Minister.
Charles is survived by his two daughters Kristina and Jennifer, and two 
grandchildren Kensington and William.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 10:00 am at 
Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 6400 Newport Ave, Norfolk, VA 23505, followed 
by a committal of ashes at Saint Mary's Catholic Cemetery, 3000 Church St., 
Norfolk, VA 23504.
