Born in Portsmouth, Ohio, Mr. Thompson was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fleet Reserve Assoc. Branch No. 60 and VFW No. 3160. He retired as a Chief from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service and was one of the first to attend Navy Nuclear Power School. He loved the military and loved to fish in the Florida Keys. The widower of June Campbell Thompson, he is survived by three daughters, Mary Belinda Thompson and Francis Lucinda Thompson, both of Norfolk, and Donna June Hotham of Arizona; a son, Donald P. "Bunky" Thompson and wife, Gwen, of Norfolk; two sisters, Jean Hoffman of New Jersey and Jane Tupper of Ohio; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Charles B. Campbell and wife, Shirley, and Roland E. Campbell; and a special friend, Mildred Erwin. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church by Fr. Wayne Ball. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Following the burial friends may gather at 1230 W. Ocean View Ave. Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
