Thompson The many friends of Captain William Thompson, commander of the Old Dominion Steamer Accomac, will learn with the sorrow of his death at his home, NO. 312 Charlotte Street, at noon yesterday, after an illness of one year. The deceased was born at Staten Island, N.Y., where his father, Mr. James Thompson now resides. He had resided in this city for a number of years and was highly esteemed for his many excellent traits of character by all who knew him. He was a gentleman of pleasant address and affable manners and was the son-in-law of Mr. William Baker of Norfolk. Prior to his assuming command of the steamer Accomac he was first officer of the steamer Northampton. A widow and two children survive him. Captain Thompson belonged to the Masons and Odd Fellows and was also a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. The hour of the funeral has not been fixed. The funeral will take place from St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 3:30 o’clock Thursday afternoon. ****************** Virginian-pilot., April 26, 1900 Thompson-Entered into rest after a long and painful illness, at his residence, 312 Charlotte Street, April 24, 1900 at 12 pm. Captain William Thompson, eldest son of James Thompson, of Clifton, S.I., and son-in-law of Mr. Wm. Baker. “He asked of thee life and thou gave’st it to him, even forever and ever.” The funeral will take place from St. Paul’s P.E. Church Thursday Afternoon at 3:30 o’clock. Friends invited to attend. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery.
