Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at New Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Samuel A. Wilson, pastor, officiating. A native of Winton NC, Mrs. Thornton was the daughter of the late Walter and Mrs. Luella Bowen Warford. In Norfolk since 1921, Mrs. Thornton was a member of New Calvary Baptist Church, the church choir, and the Progressive Club, Queen Esther chapter of Eastern Star, and the Order of Tents. She had been employed as a member of the dieticians staff at Lincoln School for many years. Surviving is her husband, Thomas Thornton, Sr., five daughters, Misses Thelma V. Thornton, and Rose Marie Thornton and Mesdames Catherine T. Jones, Louise Matthews, and Elizabeth Bradby; six sons Thomas Thornton Jr., Willie F., Amos C., Samuel C., Milton F., and Joseph J. Thornton; and eight grandchildren.
