Mr. Thornton was born in Ahoskie N.C.He retired from the Navy Supply Center after 27 years and was a member of First Baptist Church, Bute Street; the Male Usher Board and Eastern Light Masonic Lodge 4. He was an Army veteran of World War I. Survivors include his wife, Otelia M. Thornton; a sister, Annie Cora Freeman of Norfolk; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Lucinda Thornton and Anthony Thorton. A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church, Bute Street, by the Rev. Robert G. Murray. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . The body will be placed in church at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The family will assemble at his residence. Hale Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
