She was 88 years old, and had been an inmate of the almshouse for seventy-two years having gone there from the Lambert Point section of the county in 1832, when she was 16 years of age. ********* Norfolk Dispatch, Thurs, Sept 22, 1904, pg 2 Was Seventy-Two Years in Almshouse Margaret Thumberry Dies Today After Being There Since Age of Sixteen Margaret Thumberry died in the almshouse today, at the age of 88 years. She had been an inmate of the home for seventy-two years, being taken there when she was only 16 years old. Miss Thumberry came from Lambert's Point and was an epileptic. She suffered a stroke of paralysis Tuesday. The funeral will be held tomorrow. The remains were buried in Elmwood cemetery by friends of the deceased.
