He was 78. He was a former general manager of The Hub and Clayton’s Men’s stores, and a former merchandise manager of Ames & Brownley department stores. He taught merchandising at the Norfolk division of the College of William and Mary, now Old Dominion University. A native of Cleveland, Mr. Tobin moved to Norfolk in 1946, shortly after serving three years in the Army. His civic and community affairs included presidency of the Catholic Family and Children’s service, the Ryan Club, and Sales Executives of Tidewater. He was a former member of the Hampton Roads Executives Club. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Dolores Oberst Tobin; two sons, Timothy Tobin of Vorhees, N.J., and Patrick J. Tobin of Roselle Park, N.J.; and four grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by the Rev. Julian B. Goodman. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. A Christian wake will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday in H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk.
