Virginian Pilot and The Norfolk Landmark September 3, 1935

John Richardson Tompkins, aged 65, son of Benjamin F. and Mary Wright Tompkins, 
died at his residence on First Street, East Ocean View, yesterday afternoon at 2 
o'clock. Mr. Tompkins was a native and lifelong resident of Norfolk and is 
survived by two sons, Frank L. and Roy G. Tompkins; two daughters, Mrs. W.B. 
Johnson and Mrs. George W. Parker; four grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. L.W. 
Capps, and a brother, H.S. Tompkins, all of Norfolk.
Services will be held at H.D. Oliver's Funeral Apartments, 610-12 East Freemason 
Street tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock with the Rev. Vincent C. Franks, D.D., 
rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, of which Mr. Tompkins was a member, 
officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
