Norfolk Virginian Thursday September 16, 1897

Mr. Chas. W. Topping, an old resident, died at his home in Oakdale Tuesday 
night after a lingering illness.  The funeral will take place this afternoon 
at 4 o'clock from the Christian Church.

The funeral of Mr. C.W. Topping, who died at his residence, in Oakdale, 
Wednesday morning, took place at 4 o'clock Thursday afternoon from the Main 
Street Christian Church, of which he was a member and it was very largely 
attended.  The Rev. M.W. Butler, the pastor, conducted the services, 
assisted by the Rev. W.A. Slaymaker, of the Armstrong Memorial Presbyterian 
Church.  The Odd Fellows, to which the deceased belonged, attended the 
funeral in a body.  The interment was in Magnolia Cemetery, and the 
following were the pallbearers:  J.R. Harrison, K.R Humphries, E.B. 
Calver(?), J.B. Randolph, J.A. McCloud, Jr., F.A. Watts, A.A. Morse and S. 
Ramsey.
