Joseph H. Toth, 28, died in the blaze, which engulfed his trailer in the 7900 block of Hampton Blvd. The fire was touched off by a cigarette on a couch in the two-bedroom trailer, said Fire Department Battalion Chief E.W. McCoy. Toth, who had apparently fallen asleep about 6 feet from the couch that caught fire, probably died from the toxic gases released, said Fire Investigator N.J. Gray. Toth, apparently recently left the Navy. Since March, he has worked as an installer with Beamon & Lassiter Heating and Air Conditioning Co. of Norfolk. He had lived in the trailer park three months.
