She was a lifelong resident of Norfolk County and South Norfolk, a daughter of Pheneas and Mrs. Martha C. Irving Alexandra, and the widow of Robert Joseph Townsend. She was a member of Chesapeake Avenue Methodist Church, its Ladies Bible Class, Woman's Society of Christian Service, Friendship Chapter 57 of Order of Eastern Star, and Zulekia Shrine Court. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. J.E. Fussell, and two sons, Russell I. Townsend and Webster M. Townsend, all of Chesapeake; five grandchildren and six great- grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Francis A. Gay Funeral Home, with burial in Magnolia Cemetery, Norfolk. Additional Comments: Magnolia Correct name for parents should be Pheneas Alexandra and Martha Cornelia Irving Ellington per death certificate and parents' tombstones.
