Mr. Townsend died Sunday in the Kecoughtan Veterans Hospital in Hampton. He was a native of Bennettsville, SC, and lived in Norfolk 38 years. He will be buried in Calvary Cemetery under direction of Riddick Funeral Home. Survivors include two sons, William Jr. and Robert Townsend of Norfolk; and two brothers, Hazar Townsend of New York and Robert Townsend of Dillon, SC.
