Norfolk Journal and Guide, Sep 9,1961
William Townsend, 65, of 1359 W. 38th street, a World War 1 veteran and a 
Norfolk and Western Railway coal trimmer at the Lamberts Point piers for 24 
years will be given final rites Friday at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 
Lamberts Point.

Mr. Townsend died Sunday in the Kecoughtan Veterans Hospital in Hampton.  He was 
a native of Bennettsville, SC, and lived in Norfolk 38 years.  He will be buried 
in Calvary Cemetery under direction of Riddick Funeral Home.

Survivors include two sons, William Jr. and Robert Townsend of Norfolk;  and two 
brothers, Hazar Townsend of New York and Robert Townsend of Dillon, SC.
