Norfolk Virginian Pilot October 27, 1939
Robert Joseph Townsend, aged 73, died yesterday afternoon at 1 o'clock at his 
residence, 1132 Stewart street, South Norfolk, after a short illness.  He was the 
son of George T. and Nancy Miller Townsend, a native of Norfolk, and had lived in 
South Norfolk 38 years.  Besides his wife, Mrs. Hope Ellington Townsend, he is 
survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Warden and Mrs. Tillie Fussell; two sons, 
Russell I. and Webster M. Townsend and one sister, Mrs. Joseph F. Marshall, all of 
South Norfolk.
The body was removed to the J.R. Williams Funeral Home, 1027 Chesapeake avenue, 
South Norfolk, where funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 3 
o'clock.
